Ribbon Bench

This public seating concept aimed to combine notions of privacy and exposure while in a public setting. With Covid fears in mind, this bench is designed to allow for the user to use public spaces without the fear of being too close to their neighbor, as the bench itself is designed to space its users playfully and naturally.

With inspiration from the folds of pasta and sculptural art, the Ribbon bench invites the user to find comfort in its ripples and folds. It would be constructed from teak wood cleverly bent, cut and secured to make it stable yet artisitc.

Illustrations and sketch models were important in understanding this very organic form. It would have been impossible to model in Rhino without the observations made in clay modelling.

This was also a good exercise in the importance of user sequence.

Modeled in Rhino 6.0 and rendered in Keyshot and Cinema4d
