This product concept aims to bring a sustainable and innovative material into the typology of the Tape Dispenser. Though more research and development is required before this concept can be brought to live, it was a good exercise in understanding the limitations of form when met with material constraints.
In my research I noticed that there were very few designs that were able to lay flat against a desk. So in my sketches and ideations I considered this flat lay entry point, as well as a form that would be successful using the manufacturing method of Compaction Molding.
The dispenser would be sustainably made using only cork and OEM parts, and it would also blend in with other desk tools inconspicuously. Moving forward I will research compaction molding processes that do not need to use harsh chemicals that would render the cork uncompostable, and improve the support structure of the cork body.
